Prefers to live in, moist, dark, and warm areas. These areas can be tree holes, loose mulch, vines, and woodpiles or roof space and wall cavities with moisture problems. Sometimes attracted to light at night.
Prefers cool environments, and can be found indoors or outdoors (sub floors, inside walls, around drains, under garden debris. It feeds on a variety of decaying organic matter, frequently feeding in garbage disposal areas).
Found mainly indoors, infesting houses, offices, etc. Prefers drier areas, in furniture (bookcases, desks), around picture frames, light fittings, among stored files & paper, etc. Infests throughout the entire building and is not restricted to kitchen areas.
Found in warm, moist areas & will often live outdoors in wood piles & mulch. Inside homes they prefer areas such as sinks, toilets, inside cupboards, under fridges & stoves.
They occur in dark, damp, warm places, in sub floors, roof & wall voids, cellars, grease traps, sewers, garbage areas. Commonly infest food stores & warehouses, restaurants, hospitals, and other food handling areas.
Dark brown to black. Nonfunctional wings incapable of flight. Female has smaller set of wings than male. 20-25 mm in size.
Pale brown with very pale band across thorax and abdomen. Female has smaller set of wings than male. Flies when warm or disturbed. 10-14 mm in size.
